Kauai firefighters are battling a 20-acre brush fire near Wainiha, now 60% contained, with aerial water drops ongoing.

Firefighters and landowners on Kauai have extinguished a brush fire that flared up in a remote area on a ridge above Wainiha Powerhouse Road.

The incident began just before 10 p.m. after a two-story structure fire engulfed in flames was reported on Ulu Street in Kapaa. Fire officials from Kapaa, Koloa, Lihue and Kaiakea fire stations, the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative, the Fire Prevention Bureau and others reported to the scene and assisted with firefighting efforts.
