Toyota also showed off a prototype of the die-casting technology known as “gigacasting” pioneered by Tesla that produces aluminum parts far bigger than anything used before in auto manufacturing.
The bZ3X was built by BYD Toyota EV Technology, a joint venture established in 2020 to explore electric vehicle and battery development. Others, including FAW Toyota, were involved in the process.
While battery EVs have a huge lead, there are still plenty of proponents of hydrogen EVs, or fuel-cell EVs. Could FCEVs actually take over? Well, probably not.
