For this trail, hiking boots are a definite musts. Keeping anti-bug spray is a good idea because even if you don't encounter mosquitos, it is important to be protected against the east coast ticks. The trail is marked with either sign posts or white paint streaks on trees and it is generally easy to follow, but a map is always advisable. The food at lodges changes around, but you can count on getting a meal that will satisfy your hunger. Bringing fulfilling snacks is a good rule to keep yourself nourished while on the trail itself.
