For a fiddler the series of three Ho-Ro Gheallaidh books suggested by iain beag are by far the most representative of tunes you may hear at Scottish sessions.

G fingering leads you to different interpretations of a tune, often more flowing, more ornamented - and sometimes a mellower quality is just what’s needed.

As well as Irish traditional music, I enjoy some Scottish traditional music - I lived in New England for about 50 years, playing traditional music (largely contra dance music) which included, among others, both Irish and a lot of Cape Breton (connected with Scottish) music.

However, all the tunes are written in Bass clef- an added complication when figuring out keys and how they fit together with other tunes on the viola, which uses alto clef!
